Police: Church group is not involved in human trafficking

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WBKO/WKYT) - Lexington Police confirm any rumors about a church group possibly being involved in human trafficking are unsubstantiated.

"We have investigated this complaint and have found nothing to substantiate that this group is or has been involved in any criminal activity," Lexington Police Public Information Officer Jervis Middleton said.

There have been multiple posts on social media recently saying a group asking for church members might actually be involved in human trafficking.

The complaints run from Bowling Green, to Louisville, to Lexington.

The group tells young women they believe in God as a female, and try to recruit them to join.

"I was really scared," 15-year-old Liberty Townley said. "I was distraught because I never expected anything like that in our quiet community and I felt like other people needed to be aware because they were probably clueless like I was."

Bowling Green Police also confirm it is investigating the situation.
