Crash involving semis slows traffic on I-75 in Rockcastle County

A crash involving two semis and a passenger car halted traffic on Interstate 75.
The crash happened around eight this morning, near the Renfro Valley exit.
Kentucky State Police say a FedEx semi was traveling northbound when it hydroplaned and crossed the median. Troopers say the truck hit the cable barrier and then struck a Pontiac Grand Prix from Wisconsin that was heading southbound.
Troopers say a second semi also hydroplaned and then hit the two vehicles.
We're told the person in the car received minor injuries and was taken to Rockcastle County Hospital. No one else was hurt.
Troopers say this accident could have been even worse if it wasn't for the cable barrier.
"The cable barrier at least slowed the semi down to where it didn't strike the vehicle heading southbound causing a fatality today," explains Trooper Scottie Pennington. "There was an injury, there was an accident, but the cable barrier did its job today."
As a result of the crash, the southbound lanes were shut down for over three hours causing a nightmare for travelers.
"We were coming down south to go visit Tennessee Wesleyan for a college visit," said Maddie Cummings. "We unfortunately got stopped and we've been waiting here for three hours."
The cleanup took several hours. Around 11:15 Friday morning, crews were able to reopen the interstate.
