Traffic study underway at Laurel County intersection after 3 killed

Transportation officials are conducting to study to find out whether a traffic light should be installed at what some call a dangerous Laurel County intersection.
The intersection of Kentucky Highway 80 and Sinking Creek Road is where a great-grandmother and two children died Mar. 2. The driver was crossing over the highway from Sinking Creek Road to drop off the children at school. Her car then collided with a pickup.
The deadly crash inspired some to start a petition to install a traffic light at the intersection because they say it is a high-traffic area in mornings and afternoons. Witnesses say they have seen several accidents over the years.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is conducting a study on the amount of flow at the intersection. The study has seen delays because of bad weather and spring break, which affects traffic counts.
The state hopes to present a recommendation by the end of April.
