Governor Beshear holds press briefing amid VP vetting
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - A big decision for Vice President Kamala Harris will be choosing a running mate.
According to CBS News, approximately a dozen people are being vetted, including Gov. Andy Beshear.
“Regardless of what comes next, I will do everything I can between now and election day to elect Kamala Harris as the president of the United States of America,” said Gov. Beshear.
Gov. Beshear reiterated the above statement as an answer to multiple reporter questions at speculation that Gov. Beshear is on the list of potential candidates for vice president.
“What a governor can bring to the table is the ability to get it done and get the dollars allocated for these projects out there,” he said.
Gov. Beshear has said on national platforms that he does plan to finish his second term as governor, which will finish in Jan. 2028.
“Any change, admittedly, would be disruptive on my family,” said Gov. Beshear. “If we can help the United States of America get to a better place, you know that’s better for my kids too.”
The governor praised Vice President Harris’ strength and work ethic; he said they share policy focuses such as job growth, funding public education and promoting infrastructure development.
However, there was still no answer to the biggest question of all: what could be next?
“Legacy is not about an election. Legacy is not about a title you have,” said Gov. Beshear. Legacy is about the people you help, and that comes from my faith; that’s one of the reasons why we’re put here on earth.”
Gov. Beshear is set to travel to Iowa on July 27 to speak at an Iowa Democratic Party event.
